Nr. 4: unsere Weltkatastrophe

Wir leben in einer angespannten Ruhe vor dem Nichts. Was kommt als nächstes? Ein großer Sturm, der alles zerstört? Unheil und Verderben? Oder geht’s doch glimpflich ab? Das ist unser Weltkrieg, unser 9/11, unsere Weltkatastrophe. Werden wir irgendwann gegen den allgegenwärtigen Tod abstumpfen?

Noch halten wir humanitären Werte hoch: schützt die Alten, schützt die Kranken, vergesst die Flüchtlinge nicht, unterstützt die Arbeitslosen, füttert die Hungrigen. Wie lange noch?

Weniger humanitäre Ländern lassen ihre Armen, Alten und Kranken sterben. Haltet die Wirtschaft hoch, sagen sie, sonst gehen wir alle drauf. Rettet das Geld, so können wir wenigstens uns selbst retten. 

 Vivimos en una tensa calma antes de la nada. Que sigue ¿Una gran tormenta que destruye todo? ¿Desastre y destrucción? ¿O va a ser ligera? Esto es nuestra guerra mundial, nuestro 11 de septiembre, nuestra catástrofe mundial. ¿Vamos a adormecernos contra la muerte ubicua en algún momento?

Seguimos manteniendo los valores humanitarios: proteger a los viejos, proteger a los enfermos, no olvidar a los refugiados, apoyar a los desempleados, alimentar a los hambrientos. ¿Cuanto tiempo mas?
Los países menos humanitarios están matando a sus pobres, viejos y enfermos. Mantengan la economía en marcha, dicen: al menso sobrevivimos nosotros. Ahorre el dinero, para que al menos podamos salvarnos a nosotros mismos.

We live in a tense calm in front of nothingness. What's coming next? A big storm that destroys everything? Disaster and destruction? Or is it going to pass lightly? This is our world war, our 9/11, our world catastrophe. Are we going to go numb against ubiquitous death at some point?

We still uphold humanitarian values: protect the old, protect the sick, do not forget the refugees, support the unemployed, feed the hungry. For how much longer?
Less humanitarian countries are killing their poor, old and sick. Keep the economy going, they say, otherwise we'll all go to hell. Save the money, so at least we can save ourselves.
