Nr. 7: Der Replikationsfaktor (R0)

Die Schockwellen kommen in zwei Wochen bis drei Monatstakt. Jetzt sind sie noch hoffnungsvoll. Wir schaffen das, sagen sie uns, wartete noch ein bisschen, dann wird es besser. Es könnte allerdings auch sehr schlimm werden, dass sagen sie uns nur vorsichtig und in kleinen Scheibchen. Wir sind ja erst im zweiten Monat eines vielleicht jahrelangen Prozesses.

Ich habe aufgehört, die Zahlen zu verfolgen, so wie ich das in den ersten Wochen getan habe. Ich verfolge nur mehr die Tendenzen, den Replikationsfaktor (R0), in Österreich ist er schon unter Null, in Spanien noch viel zu hoch. Das Ende der ersten Phase ist abzusehen, ein paar Wochen noch, dann gewöhnen wir uns langsam an eine neue Öffentlichkeit und viel körperliche Distanz. Dann sehen wir die tatsächlichen wirtschaftlichen Folgen und finden einen neuen Weg zu leben. Der Tunnel ist noch nicht zu Ende, es ist immer noch unklar, was uns am anderen Ende erwartet. Aber wenigstens den Tunnel verlassen zu können, wird eine Erleichterung sein. 

Las ondas de choque vienen en ciclos de dos semanas a tres meses. Ahora todavía los tienen esperanzas. Podemos hacerlo, nos dicen, esperen un poco, luego mejorará. Sin embargo, también podría ser muy malo, solo lo cuéntanos con cuidado y en pequeñas porciones. Estamos solo en el segundo mes de un proceso que quizás durará unos años.
Dejé de rastrear los números de infeciones como lo hice en las primeras semanas. Solo sigo las tendencias, al factor de replicación (R0), en Austria ya está por 0.6, en España todavía es demasiado alto. El final de la primera fase está en la vista, unas pocas semanas más, luego nos acostumbramos lentamente a un nuevo público y mucha distancia física. Luego vemos las consecuencias económicas reales y encontramos una nueva forma de vivir. El túnel aún no ha terminado, todavía no está claro qué espera al otro final. Pero al menos poder salir del túnel será un alivio.

The shock waves come in two weeks to three month cycles. Now they are still hopeful. We can do it, they tell us, wait a bit, then it will get better. However, it could also be very bad, just tell us that carefully and in small slices. We are only in the second month of a maybe years-long process.
I stopped tracking the numbers like I did in the first few weeks. I only follow the trends, the replication factor (R0), in Austria it is already below zero, in Spain still too high. The end of the first phase is in sight, a few more weeks, then we slowly will get used to a new public and a lot of physical distance. Then we see the real economic consequences and find a new way to live. The tunnel is not over yet, it is still unclear what to expect on the other end. But at least being able to leave the tunnel will be a relief.
